A Civilization of Love: Why Value-Based Education Still Matters

Seventy-seven years on, our foundress's vision of a 'Civilization of Love' is not a slogan — it is a curriculum.

When Mother Teresa of St. Rose of Lima founded Mount Carmel in 1948, she was not building a college in the modern sense. She was building a home in which young women could be taken seriously — intellectually, spiritually, and vocationally.

The phrase Civilization of Love comes from that inheritance. It is not sentiment. It is the practical belief that a technical education, however excellent, is incomplete without formation of character.

This is why our curriculum design begins from the graduate profile: the Competent, Confident and Compassionate Carmelite. Everything else — labs, studios, internships, capstones — is scaffolding for that profile.

In an age of AI copilots and shifting economies, the graduate who has been formed, and not only trained, is the one who will lead. That is the wager we continue to make.
